Moiré Patterns These illusions have a lot to do with sheep. Actually the word moiré comes to us from ancient cloth workers who named a process they used to count threads in wool fabric. The process had to do with looking at patterns formed by different fabrics held against a light. Today we've moved far beyond Angora thread counts.
